Day 484

No run or swim...rain...at least that's my excuse today. Did some trash pick up and went to La Jolla to see Endgame.  I was surprised that they STILL had 20 minutes of previews.  The movie was certainly a little too long (over 3 hours) and I could see places they could have trimmed.  I enjoyed the movie, but had a few quibbles here and there.  I will seeing it again today. Went and saw Mom for a few minutes.  She's so out of it.  But the tests show she's making a recovery, though it will be a long, painful one.

Day 483

Took a day off from the swim and run.  I'm going to try to take one day a week off to see if it helps with the leg fatigue I'm experiencing.  We shall see. I took Cindy to the farmer's market in Hillcrest and then we went to see Mom at the care facility.  She barely had her eyes open the entire visit.  We didn't stay long.  I'm anxious to see Endgame  so I stop avoiding spoiler you tubes...I re-watched Infinity War  to get me up for the big day.

Day 482

Yes...I missed a day writing the blog.  I am amazed how much I live my life by routine (how I like it) and can somehow forget to make a blog entry.  Crazy. My run went a little better this morning and my swim went just fine. I went to the La Mesa Clinic where my mother will be staying for the next couple of weeks rehabbing.  I stayed for an hour, she never opened her eyes.  Oh well.  Jonny seems to believe that she will likely pass during her stay here.  I certainly hope that's the case, which sounds SO horrible for a son to say, but she has NO quality of life.  She doesn't want to live but for whatever reason, she just keeps going regardless of the constant pain and endless sleeping.  My heart goes out of Papa, who is enduring so much.  It's honestly time for him to begin enjoying the rest of his life and at 87, there's not much of that.  I came home and pretty much just watched TV.  Another day...

Day 480

Walking more than jogging now.  Now sure what's going on.  At least I'm out there getting that done.  The swim went well but the timing with the cleaning crew was the worst as I couldn't shower and had to dry off in the restroom.  Sucks! Nothing to report because I never left the house. However, Pop called and said that Mom's fall was much worse than he let on having broken a rib and two bones in her back.  He wondered why I didn't come to the hospital, so I told him no one told me it was that serious and I assumed she was back home.  Sucks! This is a great way to explain this day: Sucks!

Day 479

I went on my run, which I should call walk as I did just that most of the way.  For whatever reason, and I don't know if it's physical or mental, I can't seem to run the distances that I have been. Is this a phase or something else?  I'm just TIRED.  Shit.  Something has to give soon.  The swim, on the other hand, went just fine. I went to see The Mission Link , and it turned out to be much more clever and entertaining that I was expecting.  Papa called to say there'd be no dinner as Mom fell again and was in the hospital.  Donna went to visit, so I stayed home.  I'm sorry that she fell AGAIN, but was glad to not have to leave the house.  I'm becoming more and more a homebody.  Perhaps it's just age, I don't know. No doubt I'm in a bit of a funk lately.  It might because of the weight gain, it might because my body is just plain tired.  Almost a year and a half of running and swimming and walking might be taking its toll ...

Day 478

The run/walk didn't go so well.  I passed Allen (a resident criminal) on his bike as I was jogging and waved and it occurred to me that I forgot to lock my back door.  So, my paranoia in full mode, I was worried that Allen, knowing I wasn't home, might take a shot, so I turned around and ran home to lock the door.  I then walked/jogged a little more, but I certainly didn't go as far as I should have.  For whatever reason, my legs are just too tired.  I might be the extra weight on them lately, or it might just be that I'm getting old...but I'll keep at it.  The swim went without a hitch.  For the past couple of days, the cleaning crew was already done with the locker room before I got there...is this a new schedule for them? I certainly hope so. Trash pick up went without a hitch and then I went to Costco.  I got my hair cut and that's about all.  I planned to go to the movies, but I just didn't feel like it.  The rest of the day w...

Day 477

It was such a horrible running day.  My heart just wasn't in it and I was more tired than usual.  I only went for about 30 minutes or so.  I started to take on old route on Prospect but I ran into a couple of coyotes, so turned around and came back.  Swimming went just fine. I did some trash pick up and finally went to Jamul to meet up with Martin.  I did okay at the beginning, but as usual, hit some bad luck and eventually lost $50... Martin came over to the house and I explained more about Facebook and such and then we played a little poker on the computer.  That was about all.

Day 476

The run went okay...still walking more than I'd like, but I'm getting better.  The swim went well, the water; perfect.  Spent the day watching Padres, You Tube, and helping Martin set up his computer.  His paranoia is out of control.  He's sure that every hacker in the world is just waiting to get his money when he does anything online.  He over thinks every decision.  It drives me crazy. It was Easter and an odd way to spend it, but the holiday means nothing to me so that's okay too.  I do; however, love to see the pictures of kids hunting easter eggs and such.

Day 475

Run was okay.  Again, I did go the entire route but I am still walking more of it than I'd like.  The swimming also went well. I never left the house yesterday. What can I say. It was just one of those days.

Day 474

Run and swim went fine.  Almost no one in the gym this morning...day before Easter perhaps.  Walked more than I would have liked on the run, but I did manage the entire route.  Did some shopping, handled a sewage problem and stayed at home most the day.

Day 473

I began the run this morning but had to stop as my heart and body were just not into it.  The swim went fine though I had to force myself to go.  I don't know if this is just a phase I'm going through or if my body is in revolt or even there's a small possibility of a health issue.  I just want to sleep and I mean too much sleep.  I'm hoping this will soon pass.  I went to see the movie Little , which was exactly what I expected.  The plot and ending were totally predictable and there were no surprises.  However, as I have mentioned before, these things don't bother me.  I simply want to be entertained and this movie did that just fine with some good comedic acting along the way.  I was home by 3 and caught up with You Tubes and such.  I re-watched Game of Thrones Ep 1, Season 8.  It did not disappoint.

Day 472

No run or swim today.  For whatever reason, my legs were telling me to take a day off.  They seem very heavy and tired.  It's hard to explain but I just know I need to take today off.  Adding to the decision was an unusual rough sleep constantly waking up and difficulty getting back to sleep.  I'll be back at it tomorrow. I went to see Hellboy  at the theater in Fashion Valley.  It's not often I say this, but I didn't like it.  There were great effects, but it was too bloody and the demons were just too gross.  The comedic element was fun but that was about it.  I went to the usual Wednesday dinner at the folks.  It was short ribs tonight and Papa was late.  We didn't start eating until almost 5 PM. When I got home, I went right to bed.  Terry texted me late...geez!

Day 471

Run and swim went fine, though a tad bit of a struggle.  But I am hanging in there.  I still am wavering on how much I should also be watching the calories...it's a struggle. So I found a woman's clutch bag while running.  It was right in the middle of the sidewalk in front of In an Out Burger.  Inside was a driver's license, SSN card, military dependent ID and such.  There was no credit cards or cash.  I went online to find this person (Brittney) and was unsuccessful but I did leave a message with who I believe is her brother who is on Facebook and I also left a message on her Instagram but it's unlikely she'd get it as I'm not a friend.  So, there was no other way but to drive up to Oceanside and drop it off at her house (address was on the driver's license).  I drove up and called my son if he wanted to have lunch being that I was up there already and he and Libby met me at Islands Restaurant in Carlsbad.  I have no clue why people l...

Day 470

The run and the swim went fine.  This morning I came across a lady's clutch which had a driver's license, SSN card and others (no money).  I have spent the morning trying to track her down.  If necessary, I suppose, I will be driving to Oceanside to return it to her. I know that losing these documents is a major pain in the ass, so I'm happy to do it. I went to the dentist for the cleaning and examination.  Sure enough, they talked me into getting TWO new crowns to replace old ones.  My cost? Almost $2000 and that's with the insurance paying half.  This place really does sock it it's customers.  Oh well.  On the other hand, they do great work and I love having to get both crowns down and out of there in four hours.  That pretty much screwed up the rest of my day and I stayed home the remainder.

Day 469

Run and Swim went just fine.  It's nice that my left foot isn't bothering me too much lately...hopefully that continues. Cleaned up a bit and met Martin and went to Pechanga to play poker.  Played a Secara machine and won $10, but poker was another bust though not too bad.  Stuck $46 and mostly because I got two bad beats.  Overall not too bad.  However, Pechanga decided to penny pinch once again and raised their drops to $6 per hand AND the high hands are now only the top two.  So, this was the last time I play at Pechanga...that's alright, I always did poorly there anyway.

Day 468

The run this morning was tough.  Though the soreness has gone, my legs now are feeling the fatigue.  I wasn't able to go the entire route nor run as much as yesterday; however, I did do it and that's important.  I'm going to note it again: I do NOT like to jog.  Every morning is a battle to get up, get dressed, stretch, do the push ups and get on the road.  But I do it anyway...day after day after day.  Because I know myself SO well.  I go full on or not at all.  I'm always happy when I'm done, but make no mistake...I take no pleasure in it.  The swim is easier for me and I do enjoy that.  I did some shopping yesterday (it seems I do shopping every day) and I bought some ice cream.  I have no idea why I go through these phases at my advanced age, but I do and my latest kick seems to be ice cream.  This too, shall pass.

Day 467

The run went really well this morning, next to no soreness now and I'm jogging more than walking.  The swim went very well also.  Nice! Turned in my time sheet today but otherwise stayed home most the day as I went to pick up Papa, Mom, and Rosie for dinner at the steak house is National City.  Donna and Jose met us there.  I had ribs, everyone had either fish or prime rib.  They also drank but Donna and I the usual ice tea.  My drinking alcohol has gotten to point where I can almost say I don't drink anymore, but I still will very occasionally have a drink in Las Vegas.  Otherwise, I've become a teetotaler.  Dinner went better than I was expecting and I still got home at 6:30 and went straight to bed.  The dinner with tip costs $250...shit!  Papa picked up the tab.  I have NO clue what his finances are like, but I'm constantly worried about him.  I know that all they live on is his and her social security and her widow che...

Day 466

Today's run was stronger.  Though I'm still a tad sore, I felt better and am on my way back.  The swim went fine, but for whatever reason, my arms were a little more tired than usual.  At least it's great to be getting back into the routine.  I have certainly gained weight during my time off.  The bathing suits and my shorts are stretching to get on.  Now that I'm starting to get back to the exercise, I will need to start watching the calorie intake next.  Overall, however, I'm doing much better. I went to Parkway Plaza today to turn in mine and Papa's old phones.  I got $65 for mine and only $15 for his.  But still...that's $80 that's just been sitting my my car's center console. The walking around the mall helped in the daily steps as well.  Once again, I bought five quick picks for the Mega Millions.  YES, I know it's money out the window...but hell...you just never know and the dreaming is all worth it me.  Silly as tha...

Day 465

Run and swim okay.  The run was tough as my legs are surprisingly sore.  I walked more than I would have liked, but I at least got it done.  I went via Trolley to Fashion Mall to see Captain Marvel  again (yes, a third time), but truth be told, I really loved it...again.  Besides, right now it's the only movie I wanted to see.  Right now, there isn't a lot that fit me.  All the others are horror movies and the like...not my cup of tea. I had dinner at Pop's.  Mom fall again, this time on her face and the entire left side of her face is bruised and swollen.  She didn't eat.  Her mind is slowly going as well.  Papa is at his wits end and now he's even looking forward to her being gone.  Sad.  It's so hard on him.

Day 464

The run and the swim went fine though with only three straight days under my belt, the soreness is still there.  My left foot does have some pain, but fortunately, it doesn't start acting up until the last leg of the run. Trash pick up went well and we finished in a record hour and ten minutes.  Not much to report.  I considered going to the movies to see Captain Marvel for a third time but I just couldn't pull the trigger.  I did pick up my laundry and did a little shopping.  Otherwise, it was just the usual TV and computer. Yes...some would say that I live a boring life, but make NO mistake.  This is exactly what I like to do.  I'm enjoying this retirement to its fullest.

Day 463

When I woke up, I was plenty sore...after all, it's been 6 or 7 weeks since I had run and I was certainly feeling it.  A perfect excuse to NOT run; however, I was a good boy, did my stretching and made the run and the swim.  I feel good about that.  The soreness went away and better, my right foot didn't hurt as much...though still a twinge.  I was supposed to go meet Martin at Jamul but I completely forgot.  After trash pickup (Monday, not much), I came back to the house and end up not going anywhere for the rest of the day. Geez!

Day 462

This morning I FINALLY got in my jog and swim.  Make no mistake, I am out of shape again.  I'm sure after a couple of weeks, I'll be to it, but for now it's going to be a job.  Unfortunately, my left foot is hurting again.  I am going to have to suck it up and see a podiatrist.  It's the only thing that can screw this up.  Of course, I could also consider switching to bike riding, but that would be a last resort.  I went to see Shazam  and I did enjoy it but not as much as some others.  It was silly and fun but not a movie I would buy.  I then learned that Subby's B-day was going to be celebrated today (I thought it was Monday), so I headed for Papa's where I met up with Donna, Jose, Larry and girlfriend, Mom and Pop for a while. It was nice...at least I won't need to go on Monday now.  I know that getting back into the routine is going to be touch but I have definitely put on about 30 pounds from my low.  The shorts and ba...

Day 461

Here I thought I'd start running and swimming...but NO. Shit. Went to the kids for breakfast.  Had a wonderful time speaking with MY family.  I suppose Jon Jr and family will be moving to Nashville in the near future. Not more to report.  I considering going the movies but I have SO many choices on TV.  I'm currently watching three series: Sabrina, the Teenage Witch  on Netflix; The Good Fight  on Starz; and Hanna  on Amazon Prime.  All of the them are excellent.  Of course, it's taking so much of my time and sitting on my ass...I really need to exercise.  I can feel the fat returning. Nuff said.

Day 459

No run.  No swim.  The above sentence will change tomorrow. The day was an absolute MESS.  I made signs so the UPS guy would know to come to the front door.  He didn't.  I got a text that the package was left at the UPS store on Mission Gorge.  I picked it up and took it to Best Buy.  They got my new IPhone 8 Plus all set up.  It took over an hour.  I got home and within 15 minutes the screen crashed.  I took the phone back.  They didn't have any more of that model. They talked me into buying the new IPhone 10 Max.  It's $15 more per month...so now my bill goes from $81 to $95 per month for 30 months.  I suppose that's okay.  However, they couldn't transfer the account as my 4 digit PIN was lost.  I went to the AT&T store and waiting almost an hour for my turn and had my email and PIN changed which took 3 minutes.  I am now PISSED.  I go back to Best Buy and they get my new phone installed....

Day 458

Shit...I missed another day.  Trash pickup Tuesday and I had lunch with Hugh.  Discovered that the fish cafe in Mission Valley is fantastic with great prices.  No run. No swim. The pain in my left side is almost gone...very close.  However, the left foot nerve problem appears to be getting worse and worse.  I fear I will finally have to go see a podiatrist soon. I saw Dumbo , which was much better than the reviews gave it though not something I'd see again.  The little girl was excellent. Dinner at the parents.  Pam and Rick showed up for dinner which was a nice surprise. The Iphone came a day early and the UPS dude went to the back door so I couldn't hear him and he left a note.  I'm going to have to make a sign and hang it outside telling him to use the front door and ring the bell.  I realize I tend to play the TV louder than most. Crackers, omelet, popcorn, candy, roast beef for dinner.

Day 456

No run.  No swim This will be quick.  I got some good sleep (almost 11 hours) as I suppose I needed it.  Picked up some Monday trash and bought a new phone at Best Buy.  Turned out to be great as I changed my ATT package saving me the money per month that the new phone will call, so it's basically free. Other than that, it was just getting caught up with things here at home.

Day 465

It's my final day in Las Vegas/Laughlin and what a wild ride it was.  I got at my usual early time and was more tired than usual mostly because I got to bed a little later and folks in the room next to mine were having their own little party.  There were about six older adults and they were simply enjoying themselves with lots of drink and music.  I could have called security, but I figured their on vacation too and having so much fun, I just dealt with it.  I did my usual thing and eventually was packed and checked out of my room by 6 AM and put my things in my car.  I took a fast drive to the gas station ($2.54) and filled up the tank.  Being that I filled it at Costco in Henderson on the way here, I learned that it took just about 4 gallons from Las Vegas to Laughlin in my car.  Not great, but not bad for a large, heavy car with three adults and luggage.  I was also pleasantly surprised to check out and find that my total cost for both week...
